MISS DOROTHY G. M. MORGAN, B.Sc.

The School opened for the Summer Term on 3rd May, 1921. A term
later Miss Dorothy G. M. Morgan joined the Staff, so it can be said that from
those early beginnings in 1921 Miss Morgan has been associated with practically
the whole life and growth of the School. As she comes to retire and take a well-earned
rest, we realise that the last link with those early days - from the Staff angle
- is to be severed.
On joining the Stall, and indeed practically entirely since,
Miss Morgan has been associated with the Science side of the School. Excursions
into Chemistry and Mathematics she did occasionally make, but she will be remembered
mainly by present and past pupils for the excellence of her teaching in Botany
- an excellence reflected in the high standard of success in the public examinations.
Memories crowd in at such a time and though a present few may express grateful
thanks for the excellent range of "Tuck" available at break - Miss
Morgan has supervised the Tuck Shop for many years - others still will recall
the many Sports Days on the field when she would always be found sitting under
the oak tree (now alas "gone") like a recording angel, keeping the
details of results.
But particularly on the Girls' side of the School, most will
always remember the detailed concern she has shown in their health and welfare.
For on the retirement of Miss Fleming in 1945, Miss Morgan became Senior Mistress,
and on her shoulders devolved the more intimate oversight of the girls - a duty
to which she has devoted herself so steadfastly over these years.
And so as she comes to sever her active association, those
who have passed through, and we who remain, unite in a simple but sincere
"Thank You" and wish for Miss Morgan many happy years of retirement,
and we hope she will be able to combine with it the travelling abroad in which
she finds so much delight.
